Many people prefer the manual transmission option in their Saturn vehicle. The increased fuel mileage and lower maintenance costs make this an option that everyone should look into. The manual transmission does come with some extra parts that you will need to keep maintained if you still want that great ride you are used to. The clutch is the part that we see coming into our shops the most often. Luckily there are a few things that you can do to keep your manual transmission in the best shape possible.

MIND YOUR GEARS

Many drivers abuse their transmissions by starting the car in 2nd or 3rd gear. While this is a small issue, it will eventually put more wear on your clutch as time passes and cause skipping gears as you drive. Our mechanics understand Saturn’s manual transmission and will happily advise you on how to shift gears successfully without causing additional wear on your transmission.

DON’T RIDE THE CLUTCH

You’ve heard it time and again to avoid riding your clutch. This means that you are constantly having your foot on the clutch, even when you are not shifting gears. This causes the clutch to wear out quicker as it is putting extra wear on the clutch disc. Best practice is to either have the clutch fully engaged or disengaged.

If you are having more clutch problems with your Saturn, contact the professionals at National Transmission to take a look at it.
